Some Heroes of Indian Freedom struggle
UNSUNG HEROES
The words of bravery that burnt down the shackles of slavery into ashes,
still has its fragrance mixed up with the world.
Independence! The word that filled up in the pages of History and the
brave freedom fighters, who sacrificed their bodies for their Mother land
leaving their soul reside in the pages of History, and live alive with the
breathe of our Indian flag that fly high in the air.
India is itself the child, the freedom fighters gave birth to!
India itself is the History!
Unsung heroes!
Popular heritage! What to tell, for, the whole Nation struggled for freedom. No
one has seen The sunrise but only the parade of The British to attack them and
no one had felt the pleasant Moon night, for they were always under chaos. They
never wondered with the darkest shade of the night, for they lived a life, that
was much darker than the color of the night!
No wonder, no one
heard the chirps of the birds but only the bullet shoots of the British upon
the chests of the Indians!
No song was played
but only the loud cries of the people bleeding with the restless fight for our Nation's
freedom!
'Love for our
Nation' was the only fuel, and so popularly called Patriotism!
Unsung heroes!
I would write down
the entire population of the Nation. Yes! We all are the ancestors of unsung
heroes. We all are from the family of freedom fighters. We Indians have the Patriotism filled in
our blood stream. In the end, we all are freedom fighter's grandchildren.
Many are the people,
Who fought for the
freedom,
Oh no! the whole
nation
What to write
about unsung heroes,
I’m afraid, I had
to write the entire population!
The whole India
struggled for the freedom. But some of them were skilled enough to lead the
people with proper guidance and with proper plans.
And some of them
are given below.
TIRUPPUR KUMARAN:
Tiruppur Kumaran,
the man who touched the peak of patriotism, has his name still sung in the
mouths of the people. Bravery belonged to
men, but patriotism beyond bravery, was a unique emotion, his blood
stream owned. Himself, emerging from the capital of Tamil Nadu, Madras, so
called Chennai today, to the parents of Nachimuthu and Karuppaayi, this young
man stood in the hearts of the people.
His patriotism
made him create a group of people called 'Desa Bandhu Youth Association' to
fight against the British.
The death of
evilness swallowed him, during a protest against The British Government on 11th
January 1932, where he when was attacked by the police on the river banks of
Noyyal, in Tiruppur.
And as he died, he
held the flag upright with his hands which was banned by the British during
that period. And therefore, he was tagged with 'Kodi Kaatha Kumaran' in Tamil
which means 'Kumaran who protected the flag'!
V.O. CHIDABARAM
PILLAI
A man who cannot
be described with mere words. His bravery of standing against the British and
owning a company against The British is said to be the greatest of all!
He was the target
for the British, he was the wood, the British wanted to burn down into ashes.
Valliyappan Ulaganathan Chidabaram popularly
called by his initials V.O.C, spelled as Va Voo Cee in Tamil, was a freedom
fighter who was called as 'Kappalootiya Tamizhan' so called 'The Tamil
Helmsman'.
A man of courage,
he had a bag of bravery shining on his face and the pride of being an Indian on
his chest. He was influenced by Bala Gangadar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai. He was
a part of the Swadeshi Movement.
His great protests
against The British still has them printed and spoken even in the days of our
present.
Coral Mill strike,
a strike against the British company for owning low wages and harsh working
conditions on being Sunday also as a working day, happened only with the
courage filled speech of V.O. Chidabaram. His speech made the people strike
against the British. The strike was of nine-day strike. This strike made a
revolution. This made the workers of other European countries to strike against
their companies and they also got benefited.
His achievements do
not end here, he established many institutions like Yuvanesh Prachar, Sabha,
Dharmasanga Nesavu Salai, National Godown, Madras Agro- Industrial Society Ltd
and Desabimana Sangam.
They say, victory
is only after a million failures. But the badge of bravery, never has such. The
B.I.S.N.C ship which sailed on the sea as a transport, held more cashes for
trips. The people were unhappy for the fare was very high. Looking at this, the
man of bravery, Chidabaram itself leased a freighter from Sri Lanka. Realizing
the need for the Swadeshi Shipping Company to own its own vessels, he travelled
around India selling shares in the company to raise the capital. He vowed
"I will come back with ships. Otherwise, I will perish in the sea."
He managed to secure sufficient funds to purchase the company's first ship, the
S.S.Gallia and then, he was able to acquire S.S.Lavo from France.
The British were
jaw dropped with the Chidabaram's success. They immediately responded by
reducing the fare per trip in B.I.S.N.C to Re.1 (16 annas) per head. The
Swadeshi company responded by reducing it further to a fare of 0.5 (8 annas).
The British again responded by offering a free trip to the passengers with free
of cost. But they used the Swadeshi company due to national sentiment. The
British finally made a deal to buy the Swadeshi Shipping Company to them.
Chidabaram denied the deal.
We all know how
the enemies attack their hatred people. How people who dislike each other react
with one another. Anger and envy, the British always had an eye on Chidabaram.
Chidabaram and his
comrade Subramanya Siva were invited by the British in the celebration of the
release of Bengali leader Bipin Chandra Pal.
The British used
this opportunity and made a conversation with him of never participating again
in the political revolt. Chidabaram denied this and thus he and his comrade
Subramanya Siva were arrested on March 12, 1908.
This arrested of
Chidabaram and his comrade reflected in the streets of the people. All the
shops, schools, colleges were closed and a revolt broke. His supporters then,
were able to raise the sufficient funds for the bail but he denied to leave the
jail without his comrade Subramanya Siva. Chidabaram was made to appear in the
court and was charged under sections 123-A and 153-A of the Indian panel code.
He was charged
with sedition and a sentence of two life imprisonment. He was confined in the
Central Prison, Coimbatore from 9 July 1980 to 1 December 1910.
We can never
measure evilness. Evilness is the longest scale or sometimes has no scale. The
British people had their anger touch its peak and no wonder how the evil played
the game role in the life of Chidabaram. His sufferings were unexplainable, a
kind of the King of the evil, the ultimate flames of evilness gifted him the
situation of touching the skin of death, like as of a worst nightmare. He was
kept in Coimbatore and kannanoor. He was made to do labor work, he was made the
yolks (in the place of bulls) to the oil press like an animal and made to work
it in the cruel hot Sun. And finally, he was released on 12 December 1912. He
saw the face of death and was later released from the jail. His national
sentiments of acquiring all the tortures from the British without any
hesitation, brings out the most beautiful emotion called ‘patriotism’
beautifully.
MAHAKAVI BHARATHI
Subramania
Bharathi, the greatest poet in Tamil, so called Mahakavi Bharathi for his
writings in Tamil are called Protrays rather than ordinary. He is said to be
the Pioneer of Modern poetry and is considered as one of the greatest Tamil
Literary of all times. His fiery songs included Patriotism songs, Indian
Independence Movement songs thus provoking the Patriotism in the hearts of the
people. He lit the fire in the hearts of the people with words of love and
bravery. He made his words flow in the nerves of the people, draining the
variations among them and made everyone come together to save the Nation from
the hands of the British. His famous slogan called “Cheppu mozhi 18, nokkam
ondru” meaning, “speaking languages 18, yet the target is the same”
He, born in
Ettayapuram Tamil Nadu, in 1901. His devotion to Tamil language is
unexplainable. He had his own identification. He had a beard and wore a turban
due to his Sikh friend. And therefore, he was called 'Mundasu Kavingan' in
Tamil called 'Poet in Turban'. His songs
of poetry made the world shake with rays of Patriotism striking on the chests
of the people. In December 1905, he attended the All India Congress session
held in Benaras. On his way to home, he met Sister Nivedita and Swami
Vivekananda's spiritual heir. She inspired Bharathi to recognize the privileges
of women. And thus, he started to upgrade women and sang for their rights as
well. His writings have equal parts in the fields of upgrading women, speaking
for their rights and as well as in the National Movement. He evoked the
feelings for our country and spoke about the unity of the people. He is a
legend, his words are of things that cannot be compared with anything.
It’s tough to
describe a poet with words and even tougher when described about a legendary
poet! His songs were a mix of literature with word filled with emotions. His
songs were never only songs but the pride of Literature, the pride badge of
Tamil!
THE SHADES OF WOMEN IN INDIAN FREEDOM STRUGGLE:
Patriotism was a man
Who ruled the hearts of the people!
Never knew, whether love was in the list,
But, I believed, the love for the nation, took over
the love for soulmates!
I sometimes wonder, how many people sacrificed their
love, for fighting in the freedom of our nation. I wonder, how many people
shouted JAI HIND, and left their loved one’s name unsaid! I respect everyone’s
own love life. I respect the women who sacrificed their loved ones for freedom
struggle. They would have been prouder for they left their love for the freedom
of our Nation.
I wonder, how many women told their husbands,
‘Oh dear, I am a woman, and I never have the rights to
run out and fight for our Nation. Please do it on behalf of me, please defeat
the British for me. Please do it for me!
The shackles too broke away with the advent of the
courageous woman, JHANSI RANI.
She was the fire, who burnt down the boundaries of
slavery that existed in the Nation. Her courageous act is of great talk for no
one had the courage to break the rules.
I believe, she was such a woman who had told her
husband the words of saving our Nation and finally broke out as of a volcano,
waging against the British with fire of anger in her eyes.
Her courageous
act is to be recognised.
I have always
believed,
Million are the
stars on the sky
Yet the moon takes
over our attention,
Million would have
been the females,
Who would have fought against The British,
Impressed by the
courage of Jhansi rani,
The courage, of
not fighting,
But for, breaking
the boundaries,
The society had
over women!
UNSUNG HEROES, NOT BUT NOT THE LEAST:
Cruelty was always
the root of bravery. Blood was always the route to victory. Whatever so, in the
end, we all are humans living a life, a slave to the situations, a failure in
the concept of dreams. Not all dreams come true. In a garden of dreams, you
wished for, and we pluck our dreams with the limitations given by our life and
life situation. Let’s take a moment to respect all the people and the things
that helped us in attaining freedom. Some sacrificed their dreams to bring in the light of success in the dark
days of our Nation. while the whole India was in trouble, Our Mother land,
struggling to breathe, the whole country, the whole people were the Kings and Queens
of the nations and they itself was the soldiers of the nation. Every place had
an impact in freedom struggle, every handful of mud have had an impact on the
freedom struggle.
As the handful of
mud, taken from our Mother Earth,
You will see the
shades of blood,
All over the body
of hers,
The rain poured
onto it,
Wasted away the
stains of the bloods
And dragged it
into the mother earth,
Singing the songs
in silence,
Believing, their
blood is the reason for the birth of new India.
Forever and ever,
the world will praise, beneath the sheets of the soil, lies the bloods and
sweats of the people.
Neither King nor Queen,
But a son of my Nation,
Neither man, nor
woman,
But an Indian by
origin!
Colors of
different shades, only the red color rose and flowed over the streets of the
nation. The red colored, blood was the art, the history saw, blood was the art,
the history suffered to bring birth to the new India and the whole population
of the country India were the artists who gave birth to The Free India.
